FAQs - Driver requirements and responsibilities

Can I rent a car if I don't have a credit card?

In most cases, the main driver will need a credit card to pick-up the car – although some rental companies also accept debit cards. Use the filter 'Deposit with debit cards' to view suitable offers.

In all cases, the card must be in the main driver's name and have sufficient available funds to cover the deposit.

Important: If you don't have all the required documents or payment method, the counter staff won't be able to hand over the car – so please check the answer to "What do I need to take to pick the car up?"

Tip: Some suppliers accept debit cards, but a credit card is more widely accepted for deposits.

What do I need to take to pick the car up?

The main driver will need to take:

  1. A credit card – in their own name, with enough available funds for the car's deposit (some rental companies also accept debit cards)
  2. A full, valid driving licence – please note that some rental companies may require it to have been held for one or two years. Check the rental terms by searching the word "licence". If anyone else is going to drive as well, they'll also need to take their driving licence.
  3. Rental voucher – You can view your voucher by clicking the "view voucher" button in your confirmation email, or by logging into your customer account under "My bookings". Simply open the relevant booking and click on the 'Car rental voucher' option there.
  4. Your valid passport / ID card
  5. Others – In some cases, they'll need other documents as well. Please check the respective rental terms (e.g. international driving license)

Very important: If you don't have everything you need, the counter staff won't be allowed to give you the car.

Tip: Bring a valid driver’s license, credit card, and booking confirmation to avoid delays.
