FAQs - Fuel, mileage and travel plans

Does my car have unlimited mileage?

That depends on the offer you choose. Most of our deals include unlimited mileage. You'll see whether an offer includes 'unlimited mileage' or 'limited mileage' clearly displayed in the offer details and in the rental terms (under 'important info' and here 'Rental Terms and GTC').

Tip: Rentals with unlimited mileage are ideal for long road trips – check the rental terms.

How do I know what fuel my car takes?

Rental companies change their cars all the time, so we can't guarantee up front what type of fuel your car will take.

If the counter staff don't tell you when you pick your car up, just ask them.

There may also be a sign inside the fuel cap.

Tip: Ask at pickup or check the fuel cap label to avoid misfuelling.

What is a fuel policy?

The fuel policy for your rental explains how you'll pay for fuel for your hire car.

In the vast majority of cases, your car will come with a 'fair fuel policy' / 'like for like' policy. This means you need to drop it off with as much fuel (or charge, if it's electric) as it had when you picked it up. If you don't, you'll need to pay for the missing fuel/charge - and pay an admin charge as well.

You'll find the exact fuel policy for each offer under "Important info" and then "Offer details", or after clicking on the offer under "Included services". You can also use the "Fair fuel policy" filter to see only offers with that specific policy.

Tip: The most common fuel policy is ‘full to full’ – refuel before returning the car.

What if I want to take my rental car to another country?

Taking your rental car across borders is often possible, but it depends on the rental provider and destination – please check the terms and conditions. Cross-border travel must be approved in advance or at the counter for insurance reasons and may involve an extra fee.

Tell us while booking and we'll handle the rest: Click on the offer, scroll to the 'questions, requests or comments' section, and choose your destination under 'Cross border'.

Tip: Always inform the rental company of cross-border plans to avoid invalidating your insurance.
