FAQs - Extras
What does ‘additional driver’ mean - and do I have to pay to add one?
Very important: Only people who are named as drivers on the rental agreement are allowed to drive the car.
That'll include the 'main driver', whose details you provided when booking the car.
If you want someone else named as a driver as well, you can give their details to the counter staff when you pick up the car. There's normally a charge for this, although some rentals let you add one or more additional drivers at no extra cost. Use the filter 'Additional driver' to see offers where the additional driver is already included in the total booking price.
Tip: Some deals include free additional drivers – add them during booking when possible.
What additional cover can I buy at the rental counter?
Different rental companies sell different kinds of additional cover, but the most common is Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW). Depending on the company, an SCDW policy might:
- Cover parts of the car (e.g. windows and tyres) that aren't covered by the standard Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
- Reduce the excess (the bit that you'd have to pay if there's any damage to something covered by the car's protection)
- Reduce the excess to zero, so you wouldn't have to leave a deposit at pick-up – or pay anything for damage to something covered by the car's protection.
Before you buy any cover, it's always a good idea to find out how much the excess is, as well as what the policy includes / excludes.
Tip: Compare online vs. counter cover pricing – online is often cheaper.
How do I request a child seat?
You can request one or more child seats when you're booking your car. After selecting an offer go to the next page and scroll to the 'select extras' section.
Please note: Unless it's included in the cost of the rental, you'll pay for it when you pick up your car - and until you've paid for it, there's no guarantee that it'll be in stock.
Tip: Book child seats in advance as availability is limited at the rental location.
How do I pay for ‘extras’ (GPS, child seat, additional drivers, etc.)?
In most cases, you'll pay for them when you get to the rental counter.
In some cases, you'll pay for them when you're booking your car.
And in some cases, they'll be included in the price of the car you're renting.
By clicking on the 'price details' you will see (while booking and afterwards) how much and when to pay the extra fees.
Tip: Check whether extras are pre-paid or due at pickup to avoid confusion.
